Emergency services on display at show

Next Sunday, September 7 will see the largest Emergency Services Show"of its kind in the UK.

The annual event, now in its fourth year, is a fantastic family fun day showcasing all of the blue light services from right across the South West region.

Hullavington Airfield nr Chippenham, just off junction 17 of the M4 has been chosen as the venue for its vast expanse of land and the capability to welcome countless police, fire and ambulance helicopters, cars, boats, appliances and even animals.

And as the event is held almost entirely on the runway, it is unlikely to be affected by the weather!

The traditional emergency services will be joined by the MOD, RAF, Prison Authorities, Highways Agency and RNLI amongst other emergency response groups.

This will give people of all ages a great insight into the work of the various agencies and how they work to protect each and every one of us.

A large number of preserved vintage fire engines, ambulances and police cars will also be on display, along with some of the latest and technologically advanced vehicles and equipment which the services now have at their disposal to keep us safe.

Many voluntary agencies will also be at the show highlighting the crucial role that they play in supporting the emergency services As well as Fire Engine Rides, fun fair, various stalls and the GWR FM Black Thunders, children will also be entertained by dog displays, helicopters, motorcycle displays and an action packed main arena.

There will also be the opportunity to clamber amongst the many fire engines, ambulances, cars and motorbikes on show.

For the budding driver to be the AA school of motoring will be offering free sample driving lesson in a safe and controlled environment.

Committee member Mark Levitt said: "This really is a great day out not to be missed with unique opportunities to meet the people keeping us safe.'' Last year saw around eight thousand people flock through the gates helping to raise thousands of pounds for local charities.

Entry is just £5 for adults, £2.50 for children under 16 and under three go free, with plenty of free car parking. Profits from this years event will be donated to charities connected with the emergency and voluntary services.

The fun starts at 10am and goes on until 5pm. Additional exhibitors are also welcome.
