Green-fingered amateurs were given a chance to show off their efforts at the Corsham Gardeners' Society annual show.

On Bank Holiday Monday the event, held at the Corsham Centre in Beechfield Road, drew in crowds of several hundred people.

Show secretary Maureen Cundict, of Lumead Road, said it had been a great success.

"It has been running for 50 years or so and besides the flowers and vegetable classes there were also classes for handicraft, cookery and photography, as well as classes for children and floral art," she said.

Mrs Cundict's husband Rod was a winner on the day after taking the overall show winner title.

He also won another four cups for his floral and vegetable efforts.

She said: "He was very pleased and very proud. We have both been keen gardeners for around 30 years or so.

"We both entered the window box section too and Rod won the section and I came second, so we were very pleased.

"We also both entered a show Begonia and Rod came second and I came third, so that was great too."

Mrs Cundict said the event is family orientated and attracted many children too.

"We found that because children entered classes their friends came along to watch them and see what they had produced," she said.

Classes on the day included homemade wines, a men only cake class and a class for a hand knitted item of baby clothing.
