Excited pupils at a Calne school have pledged their support to their favourite teacher who has reached the last four in the BBC hit show Last Choir Standing.

Holy Trinity PE co-ordinator Andy Seaborne is a member of The City of Bath Male Choir who compete every week in the Saturday night show for the chance to be crowned as the nation's favourite singing sensations.

Mr Seaborne, 43, said: "The support from the pupils has been unbelievable. They found out when I taught them a song we performed in the show and they got so excited and then the whole school got behind us.

"All the kids went home and told their aunties and uncles and mothers and fathers about the show, it was great.

"I never thought in a million years I would be in a show like this. It is completely surreal. On the TV it looks very glamorous but it's hard work.

"This week my family have been on holiday camping and every evening I have had to drive back to Bath to rehearse for three or four hours a night.

"On Friday we have to go to the Wood Street Studios in London and will rehearse all day.

"But everyone is really friendly. The hosts Nick Knowles and Myleene Klass are really supportive and the trainers are brilliant.

"We are doing things we never thought we would do, like dancing and learning songs quickly."

The 50-man choir was started by Grenville Jones and reached the last four out of 25, 000 choirs.

The singing sensations are now hoping to reach the final in a bid to bring singing back to the region.

The father-of-three, who lives in Bath and has taught at the school for 18 years, said: "All the members of the choir are from across the west region.

"It's brilliant because kids are coming up to me and saying they want to be in a choir when they grow up and I am saying, why wait.

"We have even set up a choir in the school which is just fantastic."

Mr Seaborne said: "We were so excited to get through on Saturday night. It was nerve wracking; singing Desperado by The Eagles, but every week it gets a bit easier.

"Now all our focus is on Saturday and we have so much work to do, including learning new dance moves."
