Laser lights were used last night to re-create Steeple Ashton's missing church spire, which fell down twice in 1670 as a result of violent thunderstorms and was never replaced.
The laser spectacular launched the village's 17th century fayre, a weekend of Civil War battle re-enactments by the Sealed Knot and other pursuits such as falconry, archery, clog dancing, fiddling and traditional hog roasts.
The fayre is expected to attract thousands and raise some £20,000 for the church restoration fund.
