Murder inquiry after Devizes stab victim dies


Police have launched a murder inquiry after stabbing victim Barry Cooper died from his wounds in the Great Western Hospital at 4pm today.

Mr Cooper, 29, had been airlifted to hospital just after 5.30pm yesterday after being attacked in Victoria Road, Devizes.

He was found bleeding in the stairwell of a block of flats at the far end of Victoria Road.

Two men are in custody at separate police stations being questioned by detectives.

Teams of Scenes of Crime Officers have been at the flats since yesterday afternoon. The flats have been cordoned off and a forensics tent has been put up.

Detective Chief Inspector Jerry Dawson is heading the inquiry.

Mr Cooper is the eldest of four brothers, Kevin, 27, Timmy, 25, and Jason 23, of Eastleigh Road, Devizes.

Police are appealing for witnesses on 0845 4087000.

There are six flats in the block where Mr Cooper was found. Families there have been offered the chance to move out and have done so.
