Cook locally to help globally

The Environment Agency has launched a new charity recipe book called From West to East a culinary feast' to raise money for WaterAid.

The book focuses on fresh local produce and the recipes in the book can all be made using mostly West Country ingredients, showing how easy it is to produce tasty food without clocking up the food miles. It also features some more unusual recipes which are local to people in the countries where WaterAid is trying to provide clean drinking water and sanitation.

South West celebrity chefs Rick Stein, Michael Caines, James Tanner and Paul da Costa Greaves have all generously contributed recipes to the book, and Environment Agency staff have added their own favourite easy-to-make dishes.

Working with some of the world's poorest people, WaterAid aim to provide safe, clean water to millions of people in Africa and Asia who do not have access to that basic necessity.

Environment Agency Regional Director Richard Cresswell, who has provided a foreword to the book, said:

"We all know what a big issue climate change will be for all of us in the coming years. I'm delighted that this book helps people to think about where they get their food, and how much of it can be sourced close to home.

"We have fantastic local food in the south west, and I hope people will be inspired to seek it out. At the same time, by buying the book and raising money for WaterAid, they are helping people in Africa and Asia who don't have a basic necessity like clean drinking water."

The book, priced at £5.99 will be available to buy online through , Amazon marketplace from selected booksellers across the region and other venues.
