Kennet District Council and Wiltshire Wildlife Trust officers were out and about during Real Nappy Week talking to residents about the benefits of using cloth nappies rather than disposables.
Officers held road shows at a number of points across Kennet including Devizes and Marlborough markets as well as speaking to staff and visitors at the Council offices. This was replicated across Wiltshire with similar events being run in other towns and villages.
Over 50 parents and mums approached the team in Kennet showing real interest in how using real nappies can help reduce the amount of rubbish they put into their black wheeled bin and how it can also mean savings of around £500 per baby when compared to disposables.
Councillor Mrs Paula Winchcombe, Chairman of the Council's Community Development Executive Committee said; "Kennet mums are definitely going green as more are making the choice to dump disposables and choosing to reuse.
Over eight million disposable nappies are thrown away in the UK every day, which amounts of nearly three billion a year. Making the change to reusables will save parents money and also bring great environmental benefits."
Real Nappy Week 2008 may be over, but the Council and Wildlife Trust will continue to promote the use of real nappies and can provide information to anyone who would like to find out more.
