CLUBBERS in Chippenham could soon be in for a rave treat as super club night Clubland hits the Neeld Hall.

Chippenham Town Council confirmed officials were in secret talks with an events agency but refused to confirm details of the deal.

The hall, owned by the town council, has just undergone an extensive restoration to improve the sound quality in the auditorium.

Other events hosted in the hall, which can seat up to 300 people, include Age Concern fashion shows, community meetings and theatre productions.

Neeld hall administrator Allison Davis said: "Nothing has been agreed yet and at the moment it is just Chinese whispers.

"The events company contacted us with a view to hosting an evening at the Neeld hall but this will still have to go through the council with extensive consultation and is not as simple as it seems."

Clubland, hosted by independent Blackburn record label All Around The World, produce top ten dance compilations by celebrity DJs and dance acts as well as hosting events across the UK.

Cascada, Dance Assassins, Flip and Fill and Frankee are among the headlining dance acts on the label.

Clubbers in Chippenham have welcomed the news of the dance night.

Dance music fan Eve Lodge, 19, of Ladyfield Road, said: "At the moment there is limited choice in Chippenham for clubbers and you have to go to Bristol or Bath for a decent night out.

"I hope councillors agree to the plan, it would be good to breathe some fresh air into the Neeld Hall."

However some residents are worried the spill out from such a big dance music event could cause an increase of late night yobbish behaviour in the town centre.

Sgt Martin Alvis of Chippenham Neighbourhood Police said: "We welcome any organisation that wish to set up in Chippenham providing there are adequate safety measures in place."
