School’s new digital age

A giant jigsaw puzzle has been created on the side of Corsham School to celebrate two hi-tech milestones.

The school has just been awarded its second specialist status and it is now recognised for maths and computing as well as performing arts.

It has also just launched a new computer network called the Electronic Learning Environment.

The school's artist in residence Chris Peecock built the 50 square foot jigsaw using the image of the school's login screen.

Each of the seven jigsaw pieces, made from strong waterproof materials, represents a stage that has been completed during the school's change to electronic status.

The last jigsaw piece was put in by students to show the electronic upgrade is complete.

The electronic system is similar to an intranet, an internal computer system; which involves emails, curriculum websites and online resources for students to access.

The ELE manager Charlie Parsons said: "The system has been up and running for a week and it is proving very successful. I have been gradually putting each student year group on the system and I managed to complete the whole school a week early.

"The jigsaw was a good idea as it measured our progress.

"The ELE will improve the school's computing system, making it more efficient and interactive for students, parents, teachers and also the community.

"The launch of ELE coincides with the school taking on a second specialist status in maths and computing alongside our arts college specialism."
