THE question of whether culling of badgers to tackle the growing problem of bovine TB is justified is to be aired at a public debate in Devizes next week.
Experts from both sides of the debate will face each other in the Assembly Room of the town hall next Thursday, January 31, at 7.30pm.
It has been organised by Mark Fletcher, a producer of wildlife TV programmes, who lives in Bromham.
The motion for the debate reads: "This house believes it is becoming increasingly necessary and right to put the management of disease and needs of food production above the rights of wildlife."
Taking part in the discussion will be Meurig Raymond MBE, deputy president of the National Farmers' Union, Peter Gantlett, a producer of organic milk, beef and cereal; Malcolm Clark of the Wiltshire Badger Group and ecologist Dr Warren Creswell.
Tickets, £3, are available in advance from Devizes Books or on the door.
