End to busy year for author
IT has been a hectic end to the year for Great Cheverell based author John Hannavy, with the publication of two major books about photography.
The former head of design at the University of Bolton has spent several years overseeing the preparation of the two-volume Encyclopaedia of Nineteenth Century Photography, which was finally published by Routledge New York in September.
Professor Hannavy said: "This is by far the biggest editorial project I have been involved in and it has been a unique experience."
Then, in November, Professor Hannavy's new work on the history of travel photography, Great Photographic Journeys, was published by Dewi Lewis Publishing.
The research and travel for this project took Professor Hannavy across Europe, to Cyprus, Egypt, China, Russia, the Ukraine and India.
The project, initially funded by the Winston Churchill Fellowship, recreated a number of pioneering journeys undertaken by British photographers of the 19th century.
The Encyclopaedia of Nineteenth-Century Photography is published by Routledge at £275 the set and Great Photographic Journeys is published by Dewi Lewis Publishing at £25.
