Swindon-based educational charity Paranormal Site Investigators are looking for current active hauntings and ghost stories for their new book, Haunted Swindon, due for publication in spring 2008.

Co-author Nicky Sewell said: "The Haunted Swindon book is trying to record a census of all known hauntings in Swindon, past and present, vividly real and folklore.

"The book is almost finished but we want to appeal to the people of Swindon and surrounding towns and villages to come forward in case we have missed their case.

"At 70,000 words Haunted Swindon towers over the majority of other local ghost books, proving once and for all that Swindon has as many hauntings as any other town."

The book will chronicle ten paranormal investigations by the PSI team, including: the Wyvern Theatre, Pinehurst Community Centre, a private wood, the Fire Station and Sally's Café.

The book will also feature short chapters on up to forty haunted locations in the town. These include private houses from such diverse areas as Abbey Mead and Covingham to Stratton, Penhill and Gorse Hill. Also covered will be more prominent locations such as the railway works, Lydiard House, Highworth Tunnels and Lawn Wood.

Miss Sewell added: "We recognise the need to provide anonymity to private houses for ethical reasons. We are also still available to provide help and support to anyone who feels their home or workplace is haunted."

Last month the Haunted Swindon Project released a DVD, a few copies of which are still available at HauntedSwindon.com, Borders at Orbital and the Old Town Co-op. It can also be rented at the Little Film Shop on Eastcott Hill.

Members of the public can contact the group through HauntedSwindon.com or on 0845 6521529.
