A FIRE and rescue crew from Corsham used “copious” amounts of washing up liquid to release a five-year-old girl stuck between a banister and a wall.

They arrived at the child’s home at Hatton Way, Corsham, within two minutes of receiving the emergency call.

Watch manager, Mark Unwin, of Corsham Fire Service, said: “Luckily, we had just returned from a hedge fire so we were able to get there within two minutes.

“The little had managed to get between the wooden bannister and the wall and then slipped.

“She could not get her arm back round to free herself and got severely stuck.

“When we arrived, she was screaming and hollering, which is always a good sign because it means she wasn’t seriously hurt.

“The mother had tried to free her with some washing up liquid but didn’t use enough.

“We used copious amounts of washing up liquid and completely covered her with it.

“Three of the crew applied some pressure to the bannister, which gave a little.

“We were able to free the girl within five minutes of arriving and then handed her over to the paramedics to check over.”

The incident happened at 6.22pm on Sunday, August 20.
