WILTSHIRE concluded day one of their Unicorns Championship Western Division clash against Herefordshire strongly as they replied to the visitors' 259 all out at South Wilts CC.

The home side were set to resume on day two 93 runs shy of their opponents' total but with eight wickets in hand.

Herefordshire skipper Matt Pardoe's unbeaten 109 - which saw him carry his bat - underpinned the away side's total, the former Worcestershire left-hander scoring nearly half of his side's innings and sharing a fifth-wicket stand of 120 with former Derbyshire and Sussex all-rounder Peter Burgoyne (54).

Tahir Afridi took 3-64 for the hosts, Luke Evans bagging a couple of victims.

But Wiltshire replied well, with opener Jack Haines (80 not out) and captain Ed Young (63 not out) sharing an unbroken third-wicket partnership of 127.
