THE main A350 through west Wiltshire is currently closed on the a stretch between Yarnbrook roundabout and Westbury, after a serious accident on the section known locally as the Heywood straight earlier this afternoon.

999 workers have been at the scene for almost two hours since the crash, which it is understood involved a car turning into the car park at the Picket Wood/Clanger Wood nature reserve.

It is understood none of the drivers or passengers involved was seriously hurt, but the debris led to the road being closed in both directions, and it is still currently shut to all traffic while the damaged vehicles and removed and accident investigators compile a report.

A diversion route has been set up on the road leading through Hawkeridge and past the West Wilts trading estate, but the closure is causing traffic delays which have lasted into the rush hour.

The road closure has already caused tailbacks in both directions on the A350, and drivers are advised to avoid the area if at all possible.
