Travellers have broken into a recreation ground in Petts Wood, prompting concerned residents to demand action.

Dozens of caravans arrived at Willett Recreation Ground on Monday (August 13) at around 9pm.

Police officers were called after reports on social media suggested a security man had been attacked.

A spokesman from the Met Police said they are aware of the encampment but they did not confirm whether an assault took place.

Bromley Council is working with the police to move the travellers on as soon as possible.

Councillor Kate Lymer, executive councillor for public protection and enforcement, said: “We are obviously aware of the illegal encampment in Willett Recreation Ground which occurred late on Monday.

“We are now in the process of taking the necessary action, liaising with the police, to bring this incursion to an end as soon as possible.”

One resident who lives nearby said people in the area were “very concerned” about the intrusion.
