COMMUNITY spirit ‘shone through’ in this year’s Trowbridge in Bloom.

Bloom chairman Jennifer Polledri said the judges were extremely impressed by the entries this year. The winner for the best residential front garden was Robin Dallimore, Barbara Hunt came first for best back garden, Edward Hillman topped the rostrum for best window box container and Peter Phillips won the best hanging basket competition. In the churches competition, St Johns Roman Catholic Church came first in the best external floral display. Trowbridge Sensory Garden and Castle Place were join first in the community pride section and Florence Court won the residential retirement dwelling award.

For the business and retail section, gold certificates were given to Trowbridge Ambulance Station, Trowbridge Rugby Club, Castle Place and St Georges Works for ‘we support pride outside’. The first place winners at the Gloucester Road Allotment competition were Dale Ingram and Caroline Gale, for the individual plot of 100m and over, John and Celia Rees, individual plot under 100m, Ernie Newcombe, for unusual container, Richard East, for Raised Bed, and Paul Hamell, for best scarecrow.

In the photography competition, Paul Wilkinson won the four seasons category and Charles Harris was the young wildlife photographer of the year under 18 years. The judges made their inspections in mid-July. Mrs Polledri said: “The community spirit shone through.
