ROYAL British Legion members in Trowbridge will take the words written by local school children with them as part of a pilgrimage of remembrance for First World War centenary commemorations.

The Great Pilgrimage 90 takes place between August 5-9 and involves Legion members, and others, visiting the battlefields of the Somme and Ypres before marching to the Menin Gate in Ypres.

The wreath to be laid by Trowbridge Legion’s Eddie Edwards will bear a card with words of commemoration written by children of Year 2 and 3 Castle Mead Primary School.

The words read: “Dear soldier, thank you for fighting for us and making it a good world. Thank you for your bravery because without it our country would be destroyed. We remember your sacrifices that made our country a better place. In the future I hope that there will be no more wars.”

This pilgrimage will be one of the largest in the charity’s history.
