PUPILS from schools in and around Chippenham got together and put their thinking hats on as they took part in the annual Chippenham Maths Challenge.

13 primary schools from Chippenham and surrounding villages and the three secondary school’s in the town took on the challenge of putting their problem-solving skills to the test on Thursday (July 5).

The event, held at Sheldon School was set up five years ago for the Chippenham Maths Cluster, pupils in years three, five and seven who enjoy maths.

Organiser Kathryn Merriman, from St Peter's School, said: "It was brilliant. It consists of children sitting in mixed ages and mixed schools solving maths problems.

"For the whole two hours they were engaged. It was brilliant to see so many children working on maths all morning.

"It is a great transition for year dive, to get them used to being in a secondary school and interacting with kids."
