WITH almost three weeks of hot weather in the South West, what better way to beat the heat wave and raise money for charity than to take part in this year's Bubble Rush?

With no age restrictions, entrants can run, walk or job their way twice around the 2.5km route through a sea of colourful bubbles at the Bath and West Showground. The circuit will take you through four "bubble stations" where high-powered foam cannons will blow out 30 cubic metres a minute of bright, frothy bubbles.

It is suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs and prams.

Last year, over 1,600 people took part, raising £55,000. But this year, events fundraiser of Dorothy House Emily Knight hopes to exceed the amount raised this year.

Judy Fruen, from Devizes is taking part in the Bubble Rush in memory of her brother-in-law who passed away earlier this year, said: "I have volunteered with the Devizes Friends of Dorothy House for ten years but this is my first Bubble Rush. I am taking part in memory of my lovely brother-in-law, J.R. Dawson from Calne, who sadly died in January this year. Although he died at home he, his wife Sally Dawson and their daughters had invaluable support from Dorothy House. Our family are looking forward to a fun day as everyone can get involved. The Bubble Rush will be a fun way to celebrate J.R.'s life and give something back to Dorothy House by fundraising as much as we can.”

Sally Dawson from Calne is also taking part in the Bubble Rush in memory of J.R. Dawson with Ms Fruen. She said: "I am doing the Bubble Rush in memory of my wonderful husband, JR Dawson. Before he died in January I cared for him at home along with the expert help of the Dorothy House Hospice at Home team.

"Both my daughters and myself receive fantastic support from the hospice which we are very grateful for so we're delighted to be fundraising for them at this event."

Day patient Amy Hawley from Warminster said, “I would simply be lost without the support we receive from Dorothy House. They help me live well for whatever time I have left and put everything in place to help my family do this."

She receives medical, physical and emotional support from the hospice every Thursday and believes that Dorothy House is a lifeline.

The Bubble Rush is taking place in the Royal Bath and West Showground on Saturday with the first wave starting at 11am and the second wave starting at 12pm. Tickets cost £25 for adults and £10 for children.
