Writer Nicola Ford is giving a reading and signing of her new book The Hidden Bones from 2-4pm in the second hand bookshop Cobblestones in Avebury High Street on Saturday.

Whether an archaeology fan or just keen on a good mystery that weaves in romance, murder and intrigue, The Hidden Bones offers something for most readers.

The Hidden Bones is the debut novel of author Nicola Ford and is set to be the first in a series following widowed archaeologist Clare Hills.

Nicola Ford is the pseudonym of Dr Nick Snashall, National Trust archaeologist for Stonehenge and Avebury World Heritage Site.

The experiences the author has had in their own career play out in the pages of the novel as the sights, smells and sounds of an archaeological dig surround the reader and bring the world of archaeology to life.

The story centres on a rare missing gold artefact and those who will go to any lengths to ensure it remains hidden.

Instead of being at the centre of a career-making dig, Clare finds herself in the middle of a murder enquiry, as all eyes turn on the site and what is being uncovered.

When the contents of an ancient urn spark more questions than answers, she must go on her own adventure to find out why someone is working so hard to prevent her and the team from excavating at the site near Avebury.

The story takes place on the landscape of the Marlborough Downs, Silbury Hill and Avebury and brings the Wiltshire countryside to life.

Not only are the characters archaeologists but humans too, and the very nature of their work shows their own vulnerablilites and histories. The Hidden Bones can be purchased from book stores and online.
