A MAN was hit over the head, causing fractures to his cheek bone during an assault in Chippenham.

A 47-year-old man was hit on the head with an unknown object by a man who is believed to be known to him outside the Premier Angling Shop in New road at 11am on Tuesday, June 19.

He suffered multiple fractures to his cheekbone and was taken to the Royal United Hospital for treatment.

Police are now appealing for witnesses.

Detective Constable Lawrence Billi of Melksham CID said: “This assault happened on a busy road at what would have been a fairly busy time of day. There are almost certainly witnesses and we are keen to speak to them.
