MUSICIANS have been commended for their creative efforts by a professional concert singer at Ramsbury School’s annual Eisteddfod.
An Eisteddfod is the Welsh word for music festival and involved 55 children from Key Stage Two with some performing original compositions and poetry.
Children played the piano, cornet, trumpet, trombone, drums, clarinet, flute, recorder, saxophone, cello, violin, ukulele and sang. Adjudicator Fiona MacArthur, who teaches and runs several choirs said: “I was thoroughly impressed by the quality of performances today that so many children felt confident to stand up and perform. You can see how important music is to the school, the children so clearly enjoy what they are doing, and are given many opportunities to play and sing together.”
During the festival 77 performances were given gold, silver or bronze awards for their work.
Year 6 teacher and music lead Sian Haynes said: “Music is central to our curriculum at Ramsbury – the Eisteddfod is always a brilliant event, allowing all children who wish to, to join in. Almost two-thirds of our children learn an instrument at school and it’s wonderful that so many are keen to perform in front of their peers.”
