A WOMAN who was diagnosed with epilepsy in her mid 30s has raised £1000 by walking 127 miles from Avebury to Lyme Regis.

Cara Pearl, an operating department practitioner at Devizes NHS Treatment Centre was joined by colleague Helen Blumsom for the gruelling walk that took place over seven days for Epilepsy Society.

Ms Pearl was diagnosed with epilepsy in her mid 30s and was unable to drive or work assisting in operating theatres for the NHS until she could stabilize her condition with treatment.

She said: “I had no indications that I had epilepsy until the seizures began. For two years I was unable to drive or to do my work assisting in operating theatres. I was fortunate that the NHS were able to move me into an office management position until I could return to theatre, but not everyone is that fortunate.”

The pair are both from Devizes and raised the cash through sponsorship from proud friends and family.

Patient administrator Ms Blumsom said: “It was a hard walk with very mixed weather. We received so much support from our colleagues, not just sponsorship, but also joining us on training walks, including one from Avebury to Stonehenge. It has been a real team building exercise.”
