A 31-year-old man from Malmesbury is in custody following an incident in Swindon town centre in the early hours of this morning.

Around 4.45am on Wednesday, June 20, we received a report of a suspected drink driver travelling along Queens Drive.

Officers attended the scene and located the suspect vehicle being driven on Salisbury Street. It was then lost to sight in Corporation Street before being sighted again in the Magic Roundabout area where the driver failed to stop.

A few minutes later, a man matching the description of the driver was seen running from officers in the Broadgreen area.

Officers located him in the alleyway between Roseberry Street and Graham Street and he was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, and being unfit to drive through drink or drugs.

The man remains in custody for questioning at this time.

Anyone who witnessed the vehicle being driven in the town centre area, or anyone who may have dash-cam footage of the Mitsubishi Colt, being driven between 4.40am and 5am, should call police on 101, quoting log number 33 of 20 June.
