THERE was no need to go down to the woods to see a teddy bears picnic at the weekend as the Bromham teddy trail got into full swing throughout the village, raising nearly £1000 for charity.

This year's theme was countries from around the world, and villagers had to get creative about showing where their bear was from without using any flags to give away clues.

Cathy Welch, an organiser who also lives in Bromham, said: “I saw the bears for the first time on the Saturday to do a walk around.

"There was so much diversity the people had really thought about how to represent their country.

"Some were very funny, they were all creative and people had really put some thought into how to show the countries, which as fantastic.”

An impressive 40 bears were proudly put on display and throughout the weekend 500 pairs of feet flew round the course, as visitors attempted to guess where each bear was from. Trail sheets were eagerly bought by participants and in total 162 trail sheets will now be marked.

Among the prizes include a £75 voucher for the Westbrook Inn near Bromham, a £50 vouchers for Moonraker Bears shop in Devizes, vouchers for Pizza Express in Devizes and Devizes Bookshop and gifts from local business Pam’s Dog Walking Service.

10 volunteers organised the trail that took place on June 16 and 17.

The trail is part of Bromham carnival celebrations which have been taking place for the last two weeks.

On Tuesday there was a pubathalon in the Owl, where tables skittles, darts and others classic pub games were played as people pitted their skills against each other.

Yesterday (Wed June 20) there was general knowledge quiz night in the social club and on Saturday the main carnival procession will take place from 2pm alongside the flower festival.
