GHOST hunters are providing a helping hand to a family who lost the most prized possessions following a fire at the weekend.

Bump in the Night Paranormal UK, which run ghost tours in the Waggon and Horses pub near Beckhampton, has decided to donate cash from a special event after hearing that a military family had been forced out of their home following a fire.

Fire fighters were called to the home, in Vimy Crescent, Bulford on May 27 to a kitchen fire, which caused damage to the whole house.

The mother of the family, who are yet to be named, is currently serving in Canada, and her husband is staying at a hotel while he begins the slow clearing up process. Their children are staying with family members.

When a ghost hunter heard about the family’s loss, she got in touch with director Steve Howard, who agreed to throw a Ghost Hunt in their honour and donate all proceeds to the clear up effort.

Mr Howard said: “When I heard from a member of staff what had happened I knew that I wanted to do something to support them. They have lost everything, luckily no one was injured but that is still all fo their possession gone.

“We use the regularly as it is a great spot for ghost hunting. We have an intimate group of 22 people as the pug isn’t very large but £20 from every tickets sale will go straight to the family.

“We wanted to help in any way that we can.

A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire service spokesman said: “We were called to Vimy Crescent, Bulford at 1.52pm on Sunday for a kitchen fire, two crews attended from Salisbury and Amesbury. Four breathing apparatus wearers used two hose reel jets and a main jet to extinguish the fire, and a thermal imaging camera was used to check for hot spots.”

Tickets for the ghost hunt have now gone on sale for £25 for the event on June 22 from 11pm-2.30am.
