RAPTUROUS applause met the final curtain of oh! what a lovely war, the most recent musical to be performed by the Ravensbury players.

Cast and crew performed the high energy show that follows characters from the hopefulness at the start of World War One to devastating loss by the end. From May 23 to 26 the Memorial Hall was filled with music, song and dance during the nostalgic show.

The staging even included handmade poppies made by Ramsbury Woman’s institute inspired by the poppy installation at the Tower of London in 2014.

Helen Lloyd, of the Ravensbury Players, said: “The cast members played many parts, delivering quick changes and a slick performance.

“The Memorial Hall was a fitting site for the production as it was built to commemorate the men who died during, and as a result of, the WW1 conflict and was a community production featuring Players young and old, plus orchestra.

“The show carefully balanced the bravery and sacrifice of so many, with satire, song and some comic irony, resulting in a fitting tribute to the help mark the 100 year commemorations of the end of WW1 this year.”
