BEING chased while cycling along a road in remote a part of Africa by a lioness is certainly not on most people’s bucket lists.

But this is what happened to two women who pedalled across Africa with nothing for support apart from their push bikes, tents and minimal food supplies.

Along the way, Iona Hassan, from Pewsey and her German biking buddy Anna Kitlar, met people from tiny villages in Tanzania, saw the starts of a school being built in Malawi by funds they had raised and tackled dangerous city traffic to cycle 6,500km in just 60 days.

Ms Hassan has already completed a trek biking across Europe and hopes to travel to New Zealand and America later in the year. Throughout all challenges she is raising money for Inspire Malawi to build a classroom in rural Malawi and Networks of Wellbeing, a mental health charity in Huntly, Aberdeenshire.

She said: “During our trip people supported us by advising us on where to find food or water or just being interested by what we were trying to do.”
