A LATE quadruple-bogey saw Jordan Smith’s hopes of making the cut at the BMW PGA Championship curtailed as he finish with a four-over-par round of 76.

The Derry Hill man was in a good position after a solid one-under-par round on the opening day at Wentworth.

Smith, who won the European Open last summer, started off well with three birdies in the opening five holes.

However, his solid start soon faded, as he registered bogey fives on the seventh and ninth in Surrey.

His back nine was marginally better to begin with, a birdie four 12 holes into his round went some way to repair the damage.

From here, it went further downhill as Smith recorded back-to-back bogeys on the par-four 13 and par-three 14.

Disaster struck on the 17th, when Smith a quadruple bogey resulted in him plummeting down the leader board and ending his hopes of making it to the weekend.
