EIGHT jobs have been lost following the closure of

dealership Now Vauxhall Marlborough, known locally as Skurrays.

Two managers from Swindon have returned to Swindon offices, however, the majority of Marlborough staff were told that they would be losing their jobs. Future plans for the now empty site on George Lane are not yet known. One former worker, who did not want to be named, said: “The Now group is a London-based company that have large dealerships with big turnover, and Marlborough is just too small and demanding for them. They bought Skurrays as they wanted to expand out of the London area but were stuck with having the Marlborough site that they never wanted.”

Staff were told that it was not cost-effective to keep the dealership open. Last month an anonymous source at Vauxhall’s parent company PSA Group told Automotive Management news site that a third of dealerships were at risk of being closed within a year, putting 3,800 jobs at risk nationally. At the time Vauxhall called the claims “pure speculation”.
