THE death of a Chippenham primary school teacher has sent shockwaves through the community.

Lucy Loosemore, who taught Years 3 and 4 at Frogwell School, died suddenly on Sunday following a short illness.

In a letter o parents, headteacher Paul Bacon said: “Words cannot express how sad we are about the loss of this kind, thoughtful, creative and dedicated teacher.

“We are very mindful that children and families will have responded in different ways to this news and that everyone will show sadness in their own way.”

The school opened over the holidays to allow children and parents to light a candle and pay tribute to the much-loved teacher.

On the first day back on Monday, pupils were also encouraged to think about what a loss like this means through circle time and stories, and an assembly remembering Miss Loosemore was held in the afternoon.

The school will close at 1.10pm on Thursday to allow parents and staff travel to Cardiff for her funeral.

“Miss Loosemore’s family were very touched when they heard how many people joined us and I feel it gave them strength knowing she was so respected and cared about,” Mr Bacon added. “I am grateful for the support we have had from our school community at this sad time.

“I am very proud of this relationship and the trust and compassion that has been shown.”

Parent Tamsyn Hiscock, whose two daughters were both taught by Miss Loosemore, added: “Both my daughters were in her class twice, my youngest currently in her class.

“They are devastated as they loved being taught by her and enjoyed her creativity.

“My youngest said she’s in heaven teaching the angels art.

“The school have been amazing at supporting the children, parents and each other during this difficult time.”
