DESIGN played a key role in a garden entry to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, hoping to win big at this year’s horticultural competition.

Marlborough teenager Charlie Field is part of a team of students working with Help for Heroes to create a garden that shows the role that having green fingers can play for injured British armed forces personnel.

Charlie, 19, goes to Sparsholt College, which has named its entry The Force for Good, and was inspired by conversations about mental health had at the charity’s recovery centre in Tedworth House in Tidworth.

Miss Field said: “The veterans are friendly, passionate people. We’ve had lots of fun preparing for the show and have gained new friends in the process. My favourite aspect has been working together with the group in the seed sowing stage. This was a moment when the team really came together, sharing personal stories and finding a sense of community.”

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show begins on May 22.
