FOR the first time in its 72 year history Devizes Eisteddfod is to open its door to adults.

Organisers have just launched this year's festival and say it will be the biggest ever. Classes will be run over five days from November 15 to 17 and November 24 and 25 and will feature a record number of 330 classes.

Musical director Michael Johnson said: "For the first time ever the Eisteddfod is going to include classes for adults. These will be non-competitive this year but give enthusiastic adults the opportunity of performing in public and receiving a valuable report on their performance from a distinguished adjudicator.

"This year also sees a major expansion in the Eisteddfod’s speech and drama programme with a trebling of the numbers of opportunities."

He said that following the success of the 2017 Wiltshire Choir Of the Year Competition it will return but it will be incorporated into the Eisteddfod itself. The 2018 syllabus is now available from Winkworths in Devizes and libraries.
