AN open day at Devizes School will celebrate the end of the First World War and women's battle for the vote as people have the chance to tour parts of the building not usually open.

The school will open its doors on April 28 from 10am to 3pm and historian John Girvan will be on hand to lead tours of the cellars. A school spokesman said: "We will have a WW1 theme this year as it is 100 Years since the end of the First World War. Suffragettes will serve tea and cakes in a WW1 themed tea room.

"Historian John Girvan will give tours of the cellars and our attic video tour will once again be available and people will be able to walk around the old house and out on to the quad area."

There will be WW1 themed displays including old photos and remembrance photos from some of the school services from past years.

At 1pm and 2pm Mac's Theatre School will perform a musical theatre showcase. People will also be able to watch open rehearsals at 11am and noon.

Admission to the day is free but donations will be taken for the restoration of the Maria Heathcote painting which hangs in the school reception.
