A HARD-WORKING Beaver who will be flying off to pastures new when he joins Cubs was presented with a special award during a trip to Aerospace Bristol.

Eight-year-old Lucas Waterhouse from Malmesbury was given his Chief Scout Bronze certificate in front of Concorde by a pilot.

Gynnette Ranger-Walsh, who is the Malmesbury Beaver Scout leader, likes to make sure the efforts of the youngsters are celebrated.

“I wanted to ensure Lucas’ efforts were recognised and celebrated in a special way,” she explained.

“He is a very adventurous child and is keen to get involved with all the activities at Beavers, particularly those we participate in outdoors.

“Lucas loves anything outdoor and anything that includes adventure, as he is from a family who travel to different destinations near and far to explore, including discovering penguins in South Africa and kayaking down rivers.

“He enjoys many of the off-site activities, including those which involve others from the town

“We had recent visits to The George Veterinary practice, the fire station and Morris dancers, so we felt that it was extra special to award him with his Chief Scout Bronze award as part of our Concorde visit, completing the air activities badge.”

Lucas achieved all six challenge

badges to receive the award, as well as many other

activity badges including cooking, cycling, space and global issues.

After receiving his

award, Lucas said: “I really liked being presented with my bronze award in front of Concorde by a real pilot.

“I now want to get my

Silver and Gold Chief Scout awards when I go to Cubs and Scouts.”

In January, a group of Beavers who had won their Chief Scout Bronze Award were given certificates signed by the Chief Scout himself – Bear Grylls.
