THRILL-SEEKERS are being invited to take part in Chippenham's second annual Soap Box Derby.

Hosted by Super Mario on behalf of Chippenham Connected and Chippenham Town Council, the mad dash will take place on the High Street on Sunday, June 3 from 12-4pm.

Last year 56 drivers took part in the hope of winning one of the five coveted trophies and the organisers hope to build on that success.

Kathryn Crosweller, of Chippenham Connected, said: “Last year’s inaugural Soap Box Derby was hugely popular, and we’re excited to be working on this year’s event. We’ll be joined by local groups, including a special opening performance from Dancing Academy.

"This is a chance for friends, organisations, clubs and business teams to show off their creativity as well as their speed, with a range of prizes up for grabs covering more than just the fastest kart.”

Teams can only enter by registering their kart in advance in either the junior or senior class. Each kart must also adhere to certain rules and regulations and must be launched with a running push.

Councillor Sandie Webb, leader of Chippenham Town Council said: ''The varied designs of the hand-made carts last year showed that there is no limit to the ingenuity of the competitors.

"It was both a competitive and enjoyable event that attracted families, businesses, local groups and residents, and we look forward to more of the same this year."
