A DEVIZES couple, who love to travel, celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary with a candlelit dinner on a beach in Malaysia.

Malcolm and Norma Humphreys, who moved to Drews Park 20 years ago when they retired, decided to visit Penang for their big day last Thursday (1).

Mrs Humphreys, 80, said: "We chose Penang or our 60th wedding anniversary as we enjoy spending time in the Far East and particularly wanted a candle lit dinner on the beach."

The couple, who both grew up in Richmond, Surrey, met at a youth club event when they were teenagers. But their early courtship was made difficult as Mr Humphreys, 81, had to spend 19 months on National Service with the RAF in Cyprus.

Their love survived the separation and they married on his return in 1958.

They are both keen sailors and have crossed the Atlantic twice by yacht, as well as making many other ocean trips. Mr Humphreys still sails a Laser dinghy when they are somewhere warm. Mrs Humphreys is a keen member of the Sounding It Out choir based in Trowbridge, and they are both involved with the Devizes Arts Festival.

After his military service Mr Humphreys worked as a graphic designer and Mrs Humphreys was secretary of the Queen Mary Sailing Club in Ashford, Middlesex.

The couple have two daughters, two granddaughters and two grandsons.
