THE CALNE War Memorial Restoration Fund has had another boost thanks to the kind donation of £1,000.
Odette Carter, who owns Odette Funeral Director's in the town made the kind donation, which will go towards restoring the war memorial in time for the centenary year marking the end of the First World War.
Ms Carter, whose grandfather was at Dunkirk during the Second World War, said: "I think it is very important that the War Memorial is maintained for future generations."
The Calne Branch of the Royal British Legion set up the Calne War Memorial Appeal almost four years ago, to raise money to restore the memorial, which is in a poor state of repair. The restoration work is planned to be carried out in either March or April, and a Re-Dedication service will take place on May 26.
Royal British Legion member and treasurer of the War Memorial Restoration Fund, Paul Ellis, said: "We are delighted to accept this donation, this will take the fund to just over £10,000. Of course we still have a long way to go, but with the generous donations of local businesses and towns folk, we will have a memorial to be proud of.
