A FATHER and son have been driven from their home by an incessant humming noise that has plagued their house for months.

Gregory Mead and his father, Brian, of Ashe Crescent, Chippenham, checked in to the Cepen Park Premier Inn at the weekend to have a break from the “inexplicable” noise which has prevented them from being able to sleep for the past three months.

“On November 14, my father and I noticed this terrible noise in the house that sounds a bit like a generator - except it hums for 24 hours,” Gregory, 60, said.

“It is really getting us down and I got so desperate that I wandered the streets in the early hours of the morning trying to track the noise down.

“It is just incessant but it only happens in our house.

“Our neighbours can’t hear it but they have noticed it when they come over.

“It’s really affecting our sleep and I look after my 84-year-old father, so I’m getting stressed because I’m worried about him getting ill over this.

“We’re so sleep deprived that we booked ourselves into the Premier Inn for the weekend just so we could get some sleep – but even then we were so stressed we struggled to get any sleep.”

The 60-year-old said he and his father are so desperate that they are looking into calling an audiologist to help end their plight.

“It’s totally baffling,” he added.

“We’re so desperate now, I can’t even remember the last time I got a proper night’s sleep.

“Earplugs don’t work and you can hear it 24/7. I don’t know what to do, we have contacted the council, the environment

agency and our MP, Michelle Donelan, and I’ve even thought about an audiologist.

“We just want answers.”

A spokesman for Wiltshire Council said: “We take all complaints of this nature seriously and have been liaising with the homeowner.

“The complaint remains open while we investigate it further.”
