VILLAGERS are being urged to have their say about the possibility of replacing Cherhill’s village hall during a public consultation into plans for a new hall to be built.

Talks about a new village hall potentially being built have been ongoing for many years, but as part of the proposal for a community right to build order, Cherhill’s New Village Hall Steering Group wants to hear feedback on the proposed plans, and wants the community be heavily involved and to have their say.

If enough support is gathered from the public and relocation goes ahead, the new hall could be built at the junction of Park Lane and the A4 in the future.

A community right to build order is a way to gain approval for a building project which focuses heavily on community votes and feedback.

Spokesman for the steering group, John Cavanagh, said: “Cherhill has had a thriving village hall for many years.

“We think the village has

outgrown the village hall that we currently have here and it isn’t

suitable for a variety of reasons.

“There has to be a formal consultation, and this builds on informal but frequent consultations we’ve already had with villagers.”

The proposal outlines the lack of parking and disabled access and adequate space for the amount of groups in the area, and lack of basic facilities such as toilets as some of the reasons for a new hall.

Plans will only move on to the next stage involving Wiltshire Council if more than 50 per cent of residents are in favour.

The proposal can be viewed online at www.cherhillvillagehall.org/proposal or in the village hall itself.

Cherhill residents have until Friday, February 16 to submit feedback.
