TREGOZE Primary was transported back to the 1940s on Wednesday when Year 6 pupils showcased all of their work on the Second World War.

The 26-strong class have been learning about the historical topic since September and on Wednesday, the pupils performed a lindy hop style dance to their doting parents and grandparents as well as singing a number of songs from wartime including classics from Vera Lynn.

Year 6 teacher Georgina Richards said: “Our topic for the term has been the Second World War and all the children’s work has revolved around the war. We’ve looked at the Home Front and the children went to the STEAM Museum and were able to dress up in clothes that people wore when they were evacuated. They all had a great time.

“All of their writing has been around the Second World War too and we have also done old fashioned embroidered postcards.”

As well as this, the children also attended November’s service of remembrance at Lydiard Park and next term the pupils will be learning about the Titanic.

Georgina added: “The topic was quite eye-opening for them because we did a lot of the work through the eyes of children at that time, looking at how they would have been evacuated or rationed or slept in an air raid shelter for a number of years.

“Understanding that was the life of children all those years ago and understanding that for many, that would have been their grandparents in that time. It is within touching distance for the children and another thing about the project was to keep that history alive.

“It has been really nice to have been able to get dressed up on the absolutely last day of term because the day has this celebratory feel.”
