A CHURCH in the centre of Chippenham helped remind people of the true meaning of Christmas with a special prayer cafe.

Dozens of people flocked to Station Hill Baptist Church for the cafe on December 11, which played host to carol singers, Christmas present wrappers, craft stations and of course, a place for quiet reflection.

"It is a prayer cafe and although we help provide a space for prayers, some people just want a place where they can come and talk and we provide exactly that as well as encouraging the community to come together," Nigel Grima said.

"This time of year can be quite lonely for some people and that was something we really wanted to address and those that came along were encouraged to take part in an activity and we are trying to introduce new things all the time.

"We had a really good turn out and quite a few of our visitors took part in some board games that we had laid on, while others took advantage of our gift wrapping service."
