BURBAGE villagers headed out in their droves at the weekend to pick their Christmas trees at the village’s traditional tree sale.

The 23rd annual Burbage Christmas tree sale sold more than 700 trees and attracted around 2,000 visitors passed through to enjoy some mulled wine and festive activities.

Families wrapped up warm and headed out in snowy conditions to pick up gifts and decorations and personally pick out their 2017 tree.

Not only could people pick up a tree for their homes, but stalls of local sellers set up shop for the weekend offering Christmas gifts and goods.

It is the 11th year Burbage farmer George Gordon, 47, has organised the sale.

He said: “It was a fantastic event. We had some great children’s activities and everyone enjoyed themselves.

“We sold over 700 trees and funds will now be donated to lots of community groups.”

More than 70 volunteers have been thanked for helping to ensure the event’s success.

Carols were sung throughout the weekend as five different choirs, including the Pewsey Belles and the Burbage Primary School Choir, sang festive tunes.

The popular Burbage reindeer were sell-out successes, with every homemade reindeer finding a home this Christmas.

Hot soup and warm mulled wine was served from the village kitchens by volunteers throughout both days, despite bad weather on Sunday.

Around £20,000 is expected to have been raised.

The proceeds will be donated to All Saint’s Church, Burbage village hall, the Scouts and the doctor’s surgery.
