A CANDLELIT bazaar filled St John’s Church on Friday and Saturday (Dec 9 and 10) as fundraising group Omnes Ad Unum Devizes held their annual Christmas Bazaar and Christmas tree festival.

Despite bad weather conditions, people ventured out to support the group and pick up some gifts as over 60 sellers set up throughout the church.

Traditional stalls were visited by shoppers in the church and parish rooms as carols were sung by the St John’s choir, following the grand opening ceremony which took place on Friday afternoon.

Mayor Nigel Carter opened the proceedings as many people donated to charity and explored the festive wonderland.

The total amount raised for charity will not be known until the Christmas draw takes place on Saturday with prizes won by lucky members of the community.

Children decorated a number of trees in St John’s which will remain on display throughout Christmas. Food and rink including cream teas and mulled wine were served by the Devizes Rotary Club ensuring visitors stayed warm.

Organiser Marjie Pook said: “On Saturday we had brisk punters in most of the day.

“The stalls were amazing and the atmosphere was great with some amazing Christmas gift ideas on offer.

“Rotary did a great job providing hot food and the Mayor opened it all on the Friday. Teas and mulled wine did a roaring trade. Carols were sung in the church on Friday.”

Omnes Ad Unum Devizes was set up in early 2015 with members from St. John’s Church and the local community of Devizes and surrounding areas in a bid to raise thousands of pound for local community charities.

Groups set to benefit from the event include the church, Wiltshire Young Carers and the Devizes Guides.
