THE Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team was called to deal with what was believed to be an unexploded bomb in Calne earlier today (Friday, November 24).

On arrival at Beversbrook Sports Facility, it was discovered it was in fact a practice air-drop weapon, used during World War Two to illuminate areas for landing.

It had ignited on impact, presumably during World War Two so posed no danger, but this was not known until the disposal team arrived on the scene.

It was discovered by construction workers at around 2pm.

Beversbrook and the dog walking area are now open as usual.
