A SPECIAL education school in Calne has officially joined Reach South Academy Trust.

Springfields Academy has been provided with informal support by Reach South since May 2016, but was formally welcomed to the trust this month.

The multi-academy trust has eight academies in its family.

Head Teacher Jon Hamp, said: "This is a great opportunity for Springfields to continue to grow and improve.

"Governors and senior leaders are confident that Springfields' future is safer, brighter and more positive as a part of Reach South"

Dean Ashton, CEO of Reach South, said: "Our vision has always been one of inclusivity and of operating primary, secondary and special education.

"I could not be more delighted that Springfields is not only our first special academy, but also our first secondary in Wiltshire.

β€œIn the time we have been working with Jon Hamp and his team, it has been clear that this is a very special school indeed and we look forward to continuing to work with him and his fantastic team to make sure that the school improves further and that every young person in their care gets the very best opportunities possible.”

In 2015, Springfields Academy received an 'Inadequate' rating after a social care inspection on the residential provision, but significant improvements have been made and the school has since been rated 'Good'.

Mr Hamp, said: "They are looking to help us in our improvement drive, and they are looking to help us maximise and make the most of all the resources we have.

"We are always, like any school, looking to improve."
