IT WAS all about giving and thinking of others at Holy Cross Primary School as they proudly showed off their harvest display.

Pupils across both school sites in Queen’s Drive and Upham Road brought in cupboard essentials to be donated to those less fortunate.

As well as donating goods, the school also raised money towards the charitable work of the Catholic Agency For Overseas Development by leading a special harvest mass at Holy Rood Church.

Staff from Swindon Foodbank then came to collect the donations.

To celebrate the generosity of children and their families, the pupils were also able to come into school in non-uniform.

Robin Christian, the interim headteacher of the school, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the generous response of the children and their families with regard our collection for harvest.

“They have really come up trumps.

“Harvest is traditionally a time of abundance, where communities come together and share food and this has certainly been true in practice with our Holy Cross community.

“As a school, we were very determined to help the Swindon Foodbank and the children are aware that there are many people in need of emergency food in and around Swindon.

“We have also held an interactive assembly where a representative from the charity CAFOD spoke about the international aid work they do.

“Huge amounts of food and toiletries have been donated and we hope that this can be a helping hand for many people.”
