AN annual music and arts festival is well under way, and is already proving to be a success yet again.

Calne Music and Arts Festival, which is running until this Sunday (October 15) in venues all across the town, has already seen an array of talented artists, musicians and performers from the town and surrounding areas show off their many skills.

There has been something for everyone so far, with events catering for all ages and interests.

Professional singer and songwriter Nick Cope performed some of his music for children about dogs eating soup and dragons called Keith.

Calne Choral Society attracted audiences with varying music tastes on Saturday (October 7) by performing Requiem by Fauré, contrasted by Captain Noah and his Floating Zoo by Michael Flanders and Joseph Horovitz.

President of Calne Music and Arts Festival, Carole Browne, said: “A performance of Fauré’s Requiem by Calne Choral at St Mary’s Church in Calne was one of the highlights of the first weekend of Calne Music and Arts Festival.”

Secretary of Calne Choral, David Gillett, said: “We enjoy singing it and I think that came across in the performance.”

Explaining why they performed two very different pieces, he said: “We are part of the Calne community and we want to try and show as many people as possible there is a great variety of styles of music.

“We added the Floating Zoo this time because it is important we look to attract more mixed audiences.”

The fun doesn’t stop there as there are more events running until Sunday, including performances from the John Bentley School music students, the Swindon Gilbert and Sullivan Society and the much-anticipated Festival Finale performed by Midwest Big Band.
