DELIVEROO orders across Swindon skyrocketed by more than 2,000 per cent in the last 12 months.

Exclusive new figures show that the delivery service saw a 2,280 per cent growth rate in orders from hungry residents wanting high street restaurant meals delivered to their door.

As a result of the unprecedented figure, rider numbers have also gone up 536 per cent in the last year with the company now employing 70 people across the town.

The company believe that the increase of people wanting to join can be put down to the flexible rotas allowing people to combine work with other responsibilities such as studying.

On average, across the UK, riders earn £9.50 per hour.

Dan Warne, UK managing director of Delivero, said: “Everyone at Deliveroo is delighted that our rapid growth in Swindon means customers have more choice, restaurants are able to increase their revenue and riders have opportunity to choose well-paid, flexible work.

“Deliveroo’s fundraising will mean greater growth and new innovations. More restaurants will be able to deliver their food direct to people’s homes or offices and there will be more work available for people who want to be riders and fit their work around their life rather than trying to fit life around their work.

“Now, right across Swindon we are looking for more riders to join us as we grow, so we can deliver even more amazing food to our brilliant customers.”

Nationally, Deliveroo plans to add 1,000 riders to its UK-wide fleet by the end of the year meaning that consumers should see more choice of restaurants and takeaways to order from.

Deliveroo has grown its partnerships with restaurants in Swindon in the last 12 months and is now working with 38 in total.

Restaurants who use Deliveroo say they have seen their revenue be boosted by up to 30 per cent and, as a result, are able to hire more people and expand into new premises.

One business benefitting from the delivery service is Aseef Peera from Rooster’s Grill Shack. He said: "Deliveroo has been good as it has attracted a different type of clientele and has taken pressure off the business by delivering the food."

Deliveroo’s continued growth in Swindon will mean the company is now looking for more riders to join the platform. Current riders who successfully refer someone new to Deliveroo in Swindon will receive up to £200.
